Manet Secret
Research on Undiscovered and Disputed Works by Édouard Manet
Manet Secret is a research initiative focused on the study of potential undiscovered works attributed to Édouard Manet, the French modernist painter and printmaker

About Édouard Manet
Édouard Manet (Paris; 23 January 1832 – Paris; 30 April 1883) was a French painter whose work influenced early developments of Impressionism. Among his contemporaries, he was considered a contradictory figure, balancing public ambition with personal uncertainty regarding artistic direction.
Although associated with the emergence of Impressionism, he did not fully identify with the movement and did not participate in its exhibitions. He continued to exhibit at official Salons and maintained interest in traditional academic structures while exploring modern visual approaches. Reports grouped under Manet’s Secret examine archival material, disputed attributions, and gaps in the historical record of his production.

Exploring Unknown Manet Works
The project does not aim to redefine established scholarship but to consolidate dispersed references, exhibition records, and provenance notes for further study.
By comparing stylistic elements, material evidence, and documented accounts, researchers attempt to clarify uncertainties surrounding certain attributed works.
Attention is also given to the influence of Manet’s methods on later modern painting practices and critical discourse. Manet Secret brings together interdisciplinary perspectives to document uncertain attributions without altering established historical conclusions. All findings are presented as open research material intended for ongoing academic discussion and review processes included.
